The woes of advertising, part two

by Mar Matthias Darin

For those that missed part one, you can catch up here.

Its been blooming frustrating to make a few bucks here and there. The economy is really doing a number of the advertising market. I've actually reconsidered PayPerPost seeing that there are a few new players in the game. That was a big mistake. Its still a bucket load of crap.

Its unbelievablely amazing how many people are willing to pay for your opinion as long as its the opinion they want. One particular product comes to mind... The advertiser ask for an honest opinion and review of their product. Advertisers should never ask me for an honest opinion, unless they can handle the hard cold brutal truth.

What this joker wanted me to do is write a glossy, blow smoke up my readers' backsides touting how wonderful this product (read: worthless, useless, cheap made crap) was. We're talking about me here. How can anyone think I'm going to to give a smoke blowing review after reading a few on my posts? It ain't gonna happen! Needless to say, this opinion seeking comedian just couldn't handle the truth --- that being their product had the appeal of a ripe smelling horny skunk having an orgasm.

PayPerPost is nothing more than a "we'll pay you to write something nice about all the worthless, cheap made, crap we can't pawn off somewhere else". Furthermore, anyone writing about PayPerPost crap is just telling their visitors that they are so shamelessly greedy and cheap that they'll promote last year's dirty diapers and they have no class, integrity, and moral decency...

Enough of that... In the above mention article, I mentioned that I built a custom rotator for my ads as I was trying a couple of new advertisers. The rotators worked beautifully, the advertisers, on the other hand, just didn't make the grade.

One of the advertisers I gave a spin, BidVertiser, looked like it had real potential. Trust me, the only way to admire BidVertiser is from a distance. This was a real disappointment. The sad part is they could be an outstanding company. Unfortunately, I looked under the hood, kicked the tires and took it for a spin.

The engine is great. BidVertiser has one of the better ad customization systems I've seen. I was able to blend their ads into my blog with extremely little effort and the free-form design was fabulous. I'm drooling like a half crazed, starved, ravenous wolf with anticipation on getting these system online. After all, with an ad customization this sweep, they must have some very generous and nice advertisers. You know, the kind that have high standards in taste and style that just lull the visitor into their world. So I stayed up until 6 am in the morning getting the BidVertiser ad slots designed, tested, and onto my blog. I finally went to bed thinking I had made a good choice and when I awoke I would be greeting with news of some classy looking reputable advertisers just vying for my pristinely virgin ad slot.

The next morning, I went to see what new advertisers were awaiting me. Oh, the dreaded horror of it all. I could not believe what layed before my eyes. I had to have screwed something up somewhere. What I saw could not be what I could expect for advertisers! It just couldn't be! I would much rather had laid my eyes on a Charpe wearing a G-String or a satanic, sun baked Chihuahua!

What I saw was a plethora of "get rich quick" crap and casinos. There were TWO advertisers that had any merit at all and they were geo-targeted to everywhere else except the United States. I went through my entire setup all over looking for anything I might have missed and waiting for the new settings to kick in. Low unto me... The ads actually got worse! How could such a well designed advertising system cater to the refuse of the sewers? After much work and tweaking and inspection, the ads never improved.

Alas, last night I bid BidVertiser farewell with a might press of the delete key... Unless they really clean their inventory up (read: start over with better clientele), BidVertiser will become known as the SewageVertiser.

Also, bidvertiser has been known to cancel affilliates the second they reach the $10 mark.

I wouldn't be surprised after seeing the quality of the ads. Its a shame too, as they really could take the market with their ad customization abilities.

Thanks for the heads up on BidVertiser. I won't feel the need to try them.

Did you realize that Paying post was the cause of dozens of websites going down yesterday? One of their codes got hacked. See template problems

You're welcome.

No I didn't. Thanks for the heads up on this. One more reason to avoid them, as if there wasn't enough already....
