The non-profit tax exemption status needs to go

by Mar Matthias Darin

My little diatribe for today is going to make many people uncomfortable and unhappy... Oh well, they get over themselves. If not, too bad as they deserve to be uncomfortable. Lets, see... Where to begin on this subject?

This country has a multi-billion dollar racket that screws the American tax payer to the wall. The worst part about it, is people don't even realize their getting screwed. This time of the year (the holidays) are the worst and most outrageous of any time of the year. The most heinous of the offenders surface and bilk our entire country. Who are these offenders you ask? The perpetrators of this great sham, scam, and out right thievery are the 501(c) non-profit companies.

That's right, the 501(c) non-profit businesses are ripping off the entire country. Why? The answer is simple if you think about it... Why should any group of businesses that rakes in hundreds of millions to billions of dollars a year, get special treatment that a person living on the street can't get? Every time you buy something, you, me, and even the homeless and destitute must pay sales tax.

The idea of giving a charitable cause a break may seem worthy, even honorable, but it is one of the most abused systems in this country. I have seen countless of non-profits make more profit then the largest of the fortune five hundred companies. The abuse that goes on with the 501(c) tax exemption is disgusting and so easy to do that just about even 501(c) non-profit has done it knowingly or unknowingly.

The way 501(c) works is the tax exempt status is supposed to be used for businesses giving goods or services back to the community. Well, that's how its supposed to work. The way it actually is used, along with the above, is the holder(s) of the 501(c) tax exemption applies this very worthy document to their personal life, thus bilking millions of dollars out of tax payers.

I have seen preachers of a church buy Cadillacs using (read abusing) their all important 501(c) tax exempt status and keeping such purchases for themselves. Its disgusting, disgraceful, and against Scripture. We're not done yet... Oh, no, not by a long shot... Churches aren't the only offenders to this crime. Schools and educational institutions are also high on this list. Universities that charge hundreds of dollars per credit also profit from their tax exempt status. How do you think they can buy such elaborate vehicles for the upper elite?

Hospitals, another group reeking unholy profits from this, are also taking tax payers on a long trip off of a short pier. The list of chronic abusers goes on and I haven't even touch the surface. I've only given three of the worst offenders not to mention every corporation from January to April (Tax Day) that uses massive "donations" to hide their true profit.

Just think of the billions of dollars in tax revenues that would be generated by doing away with the 501(c) tax exempt status. We might even be able to give quality health care to everyone without bankrupting the country. This horrifyingly reprehensible hell spawn must be removed from our tax code.

Its time to take the 501(c) tax exempt status out of existence and stop the massive thievery in our country.

I think any corporation that outsources work overseas instead of hiring local workers should lose any tax benefits.

Comments from Mar Matthias Darin

True. Prehaps taking thing one step further and applying higher tax rate would also be worth considering.
