The Budding Fig Tree

Matthew 24:32-36 - Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When hi s branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: (33) So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34Verily I say unto you, this generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

The Parable of the Budding fig Tree relates to Israel becoming a nation once again and then becoming the flourishing bloom in the desert and in the land that was once theirs. They reclaim their land and the Holy city of Israel. There are quite a number of interesting things to consider in Jesus' parable. First, this is not a parable given to the public as a whole, but rather it was directly to His disciples and for those who have been redeemed by the blood and are trying hard to walk in His footsteps. He says that not just to the disciples but to us, that we should be alert and know from the signs that His return is near. He told us the signs, in addition to the ones he gave in certain parables, in his Olivet discourse. That is found in Matthew 23-25. He clearly spells it out so even a child could understand it.

Jesus said the generation that sees the budding of the fig tree will see all of the happenings of the Son of Man. The fig tree began budding in the year 1948 when Israel became a nation in one day just as the prophet Isaiah foretold in Isaiah 66:8, "Who hath heard such a thing? Who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children." It may seem ironic that Daniel's book, that was sealed up until knowledge was increased, was opened by God at this time. This time period started off the industrial revolution, which has not slowed down to this day. People travel now around the world just like some walk to the corner grocery. I think this is definitely the time period the angel spoke of when he said the book will be sealed till the times when men run to and fro and knowledge is increased.

Now that the prophecies of Daniel are openly understood, we need to look further, to other secrets that may be held in God's Word for us to know, understand, and consider. As the book of Proverbs says, "God loves to hide secrets in his Word and he thinks of us as kings to search them out."

The book of Psalms holds so many secrets that may never all be discovered. Not only did Psalms foretell of the horror on the cross by Jesus, but there are many other divine happenings that our Lord fulfilled to every degree. David, is the author of Psalms and even stated that he was waiting for the Lord to return. The Lord was not to be born for another 2000 years, and David was looking for him to return. This is prophecy pure and simple.

There is a timetable in the book of Psalms that has been visible now ever since the fig tree budded. It describes the wars against the Jews in 7 individual wars against the nation. Each war that is described in the chapter that lines up with the year the event took place. One example is the budding of the fig tree, is recorded in Chapter 48, and it happened in 1948 and all other associated events continue on through Chapter 119. Chapters 120 through 135 speak of the Lord dwelling with us here on the earth as in the millennium period. Chapter 136 through the end of Psalms speaks of the period Satan is released from the bottomless pit and tries to influence the nations on the earth again.

In Psalms 48:13 says, "Tell it to the Generation Following". From there the book of Psalms will take you through the timetable and shows verse by verse comparisons to historical events and of events to come until the glorious appearing of our great God and Lord Jesus Christ. You can at least read and examine for yourself the world of wealth hidden in the book of Psalms in your Bible. Other books are Daniel, Ezekiel, Revelation and more!

We are the generations that the prophets and Jesus spoke of and we need to be on our toes to all the signs being given to us. Most importantly, we need to be prepared for His return and for our eternal life by accepting Christ into out hearts and lives. Just ask Him to forgive your sins, ask Him to come into your heart and let him know that you believe that HE IS THE SON OF GOD WHO DIED FOR YOUR SINS AND REDEMPTION.
