John Allen Muhammad, dead at 9:11pm by Mar Matthias Darin Capitol punishment is again center stage of a heated debate. John Allen Muhammad was executed on November 11th, 2009 (yesterday). "He died very peacefully, much more than most of his victims," said Prince William County prosecutor Paul Ebert, who witnessed Muhammad die by injection at 9:11 p.m. Tuesday at Greensville Correctional Center, south of Richmond. Many claim that capitol punishment is cruel and unusual punishment. I'm sure the family members of Muhammad's victims would disagree. However, we must consider the possibility that Muhammad was innocent and wrongly accused. Capitol punishment is necessary for the most hideous of crimes, but I do believe it is over used and for the wrong crimes. In order for capitol punishment to be carried out without mistake, there must be evidence that can not be challenged, like DNA and/or clear and unquestionable video. It must be a situation where there is no question of the crime. Capitol punishment must also have a double edge, in that if someone was executed and later proven innocent, the prosecutor(s) must be held to the same judgment as the innocently executed person. Its that razor sharp double edge that makes capitol punishment work without being abused. History shows it works. History also shows its abuse. The one thing to remember about capitol punishment, is its ment to punish the guilty. I do believe we've made it too easy for the guilty to die. From the standpoint of the victims' families, Muhammad wasn't punished. After all it was as easy as going to sleep. Where is the punishment in that? Capitol punishment works when the outcome is feared. People, even criminals, avoid what they fear. At the same time, its not abused if it has the double edge. We've made it too easy for the truly guilty to die and for the prosecutors to walk away with committing a murder of their own. Under this situation, neither the guilty suffer, nor is justice served. Comments from Rachat Credit 196.20.161.31 Capitol punishment is a too cruel system for murderers. Comments from Mar Matthias Darin Defiscalisation, Rachat: Both of you are at the opposite end of the pole here. That begs the questions, "Why is it right?" and "Why is it too cruel?" Feel free to elaborate of either question. This is definitely a discussion that needs to be covered.
