Biblical Reference - Luke 17:7-10

7"But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat? 8And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? 9Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow [think] not. 10So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, we are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do."

(Note the Bible warns us not to change the world of God -- Rev 22-18-20, which says, "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." I have not and will not change the word of God; but for understanding I put this parable in terms that you would understand today. This is the very same biblical parable as given above; but only written this way for your clearer understanding.)

In this parable, we will learn about gratitude and appreciation or the lack thereof for what one does for another. To put this parable in a more modern aspect, so it is easier to understand. "Which of you being a farmer, having hired hand [servant] to plow the field or to feed the cattle that you have. "Will say to that hired hand when he has come in from the field, to go and sit down to eat? But rather say to the hired hand, "go and prepare my meal so that I may eat and gird myself and serve me 'til I have eaten and drank, then tell the hired hand that he would be able to eat and drink." "Does that person thank his hired hand [servant] for doing all that was asked of him to do?" Jesus, then answers his own question by saying, "I think not. So it is with you when you have done all those things that where commanded of you to do, you also say we are unprofitable servants when we have done that which was our duty to do."

It is natural to feel unappreciated in this world and some have good reason to feel that way, because of the way they give their heart and soul to the task before them. Some are of the nature that they think that they are superior because of their position in a company or business or even in farming. These are the types that never learned, themselves, what it is like to be thankful or to thank someone for what was done for them. Some are called "spoiled brats", while others are arrogant and controlling as well as egotistical. For those who are under these types of people, they feel unappreciated and nothing more than someone to which they can subject to their will under threat of losing their job, no matter how much heart and soul they put into their job to make sure it is done right. They are in what we call today as "thankless jobs" and they know that their chances for advancement, because of lies, deceit and manipulation by others, they are in a "no where" job. They become depressed and get discouraged, all the while knowing that they can't afford to lose their job, because the consequences to their families and/or themselves could be and usually are devastating -- especially in the world today.

BUT I DO HAVE GOOD NEWS!!!!

We, who serve the Lord, sometimes feel the same way because of the ridicule we get from others and/or we are so driven that we feel like we are banging our heads against a 12 foot thick wall and getting no where. If we persevere in what seems to be a thankless job, we do know that God does take notice and he does appreciate what we are doing, by the unexpected blessings that He bestows upon us. This also applies who are the true and faithful in the Lord, as well. We also know that what ever we do in his name, he will honor and when the time is right we will receive our just reward for it. The devil [satan] operates the same way but his "just rewards" are anything but good. With mankind and the responsibility of working in the work force to take care of yourself and/ or your family, it is a toss up as to whether or not you will advance in the job you have or you will be fired in the most painful way. The only way to have a better chance for advancement in this world is to have a good and Godly Christian boss. They are those who have the ability to discern between the lies, deceit and manipulations of some for those who truly are putting their heart and soul into what task they were given.

I can guarantee that if you have asked Christ into your heart and life, that even though you live in him, walk daily with Him and what you do in His name seems thankless here on earth, he will still pour out his blessings on you unexpectedly. In heaven, your eternal home, God is taking account of what you do and storing up your treasures there, where they will not rot or rust or turn to dust as do the things of the earth do. They have far more value than the things of the earth. Be thankful for what you have here on earth in spite of it all, knowing full well that your reward for your faithfulness and hard worked in the Lord awaits you in heaven.

Finally, know this, this world is full of ungrateful and unappreciative people who do not even know the words, "Thank-you" and if they do, they see no reason to say, "Thank-you" to any one, because it is that person's job and that is what they are required to do if they want to get paid. With God, whatsoever you do for Him in his name, he is thankful for and he DOES take note of it. He is setting aside your reward in heaven that no one can take from you and you will never lose. Therein lays your encouragement, your eternal hope and promise for the future.

If you are not redeemed by the blood of the lamb and are still traveling that broad road to destruction, as told to us by Jesus in Matthew 7:13 -- "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:" ; perhaps you ought to take stock of your life here and consider your eternal life that will go on forever either in heaven or hell, by the choice that you make. There is no middle or fine line here. If you are redeemed by the blood of the lamb and are walking in his light and Grace, then you know that your reward is waiting for you in heaven. For the rest of you, albeit agnostics, atheists, homosexuals still committing homosexual acts when they became Christians and those who didn't accept Jesus, and those who are into occultic and satanic practices, etc. your fate awaits you in the lake of fire. Make the right choice. Know that God really loves you! He created you and breathed life into you before you were born. If he didn't love you -- He wouldn't have created you with Love.
