Where are the Republican Conservatives?

by Mar Matthias Darin

This may be a surprise to some, especially considering my hard conservative stand on many issues, but I find the Republican Party calling themselves Conservative completely absurd. There hasn't been anything conservative about the Republican Party for at least twenty years.

I make no bones that I certainly don't find the Democrat agenda appealing and being anti-Democrat. However, the Republican agenda is no better and I'm just as anti-Republican...

The Republican Party is NOT conservative. I don't know what they've become, but a Conservative isn't it. Once being a registered Republican, now a registered Progressive Conservative Independent, I now what Conservative values are. The values of a Republican and the values of a Conservative are now quite different.

Being a true Conservative, there are certain things I want and expect out of my Government that the Republicans have forgotten...

First, I want accountability out of ALL elected officials. All these blasted scandals are getting ridiculous. What happened to human decency and morals. Its one thing for a child of a politician to do stupid things, but its quite another when the politicians themselves are doing stupid things.

Second, "Voting the Party Line?" Who the hell cares about the party line? I don't give a rat's backside about the party line! I care about our country's sinking economy, rising unemployeement, and the high cost of medical care. I would think any responsible person would... I can't even remember the last time a Republican politician actually focused on the real issues of THIS country. I know this applies to both, but I'm trying to stay focused on the failed Republicans...

Third, Fiscal responsibility... Lately the Republicans have been anything but responsible with OUR money. The recent Onmibis bill passed with four hundred and ten billion dollars of Republican earmarks. How can the Republicans begin to call that "Fiscal Responsibility"? I don't think so! Through out the last three years, that been a major talking point of the Republicans. I guess thats all they are capable of doing anymore... I'm timed of worthless Republican talk, lets have some real Republican actions... if they're not too old to get off their lazy backsides...

Fourth, the energy crisis has had a real impact and yet again, the Republicans have failed to make it to first base. I agree we need more domestic drilling, in an environmentally safe and responsible way. However; we need more then just drilling to move this country forward. Where's the regulations requiring new homes to be built with solar panels and vertical wind turbines on the roofs? Where's the regulations requiring city and state governments to upgrade state building to use this technology. There was a company out of Oregon that produced solar and wind powered street lights. Just imagine how much of OUR money a city can save by replacing all the street lights with something along these lines. The savings on electricity alone would cover the cost of replacing all the street lights. The roofs of skyscrapers scattered through out this country would be perfect places for wind turbines. Also, why weren't these ideas explored thirty four years ago during the first gas shortage?

Fifth, I've never heard a Republican advocate for term limits or a line item veto. WHY? These two simple, yet powerful, tools have the potential to really reign in wasteful speeding and really demonstrate responsibility.

I've just presented a few things that could rebuild the Republican Party into something respectable... I'm sure there are many other ways I haven't even touched on though...

Ironically, and perhaps the biggest hypocrisy of all, the Republican Party has been associated the elephant as it mascot since November 7, 1874. Anyone who has watched National Geographic or any nature program about elephants knows these large lumbering creatures are one of Nature's greatest examples of grace, strength, and power. Elephants have survived in some of the harshest climates on the planet.

The elephant is far too superior for the Modern day Republican Party. Maybe something more appropriate like a weasel would be better suited to what the Republican Party is today.

The Republican Party has become a disgrace in modern times. Clinging to core principles only when its convent doesn't wash. Allot of what I have said may apply to both parties, but its the Republican Party that has set these standards as their measuring line and they have fallen off of the cliff in upholding them. Its time for them to fade away or stand up for the standards they claim. Either way, the current Republican Party is a worthless, miserable failure.

I know, I've been a democrat, but I hate some of their policies. I think there will be 4 parties in the future, a Christian party, an ultra-liberal-vegan party, and the 2 old parties. The democrats no longer fit the definition of liberal.

"free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant: a liberal attitude toward foreigners. open-minded or tolerant, esp. free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, et"

That's not the democratic party. Nor is it the republican party... Do you want to make a new party?

I think will end up with a liberal, a moderate, and a conservative party. I'd like to see the Independants actually stand on their own.
