Along for the Ride! Update 4 by Mar Matthias Darin Many of my visits have noticed that the Along for the Ride! (AFTR) is missing at the top left of my blog. I am testing another widget style to add to the diversity of AFTR. I am testing a fixed widget that loads at the bottom of the page. This particular widget sits dormant until the hosting page is completely (including all other widgets, banners, and so forth). In fact, the AFTR widget will remain invisible until the hosted page is done. I deliberately went with this approach because I despise rude widgets. As such, I try my best to make AFTR work politely. This politeness may be a downside, But I look at the situation as follows: the visitor came to visit the hosting page. Thus it should load first and completely without any competition for bandwidth. AFTR is meant to add to the visitor's experience and provide the hosting page with an added feature, not detract from it or steal the hosting page's visitor. I went with the bottom of the page because research shows that once the visitor reaches the bottom of the page, they often will look for another site to visit. This ideology is supported by banner ads doing so well at the bottom. This version, which I will refer to an the Embedded version will be an addition to the MouseOver and Click versions. My goal is to provide various methods that a blog owner can choose from that best suites their blog. AFTR members can test the code by placing the following code at the bottom of their blog. This does have the highest expoure rate, but may not be appropriate to all blogs. <script type="text/javascript" src="http://matthiaschronicles.tanaya.net/AFTR/aftr.xjs?Embed"></script> Let me know what you think. Will this approach be as useful as the MouseOver and Click versions?
