Blogging tips 103: Blogging styles by Mar Matthias Darin In my Blogging tips 102, I discussed some of the basics of advertising. This time I'm going to talk about blogging styles. There are really only two basic types of blogging styles, article blogging and micro blogging. Full length article blogging are those where you research your content, provide lots of supporting links to your position, describe a technical process in detail, and so forth. Micro blogging, on the other hand, is a style where you simply post your thoughts in a short pithy paragraph. FaceBook and Twitter are examples of this. Both have distinct advantages and disadvantages. The size of the post can be both an advantage and a disadvantage depending of your personal writing style. Micro blogging seems easier for a new blogger to get their feet wet and the blog is more like to develop faster as there isn't the need to be extensively detailed. As a person's writing skills improve, the limited size of each post in micro blogging mat begin to hamper the creative writing processes. This is where article blogging shines. Posts or articles can be any length and often are multi-part. Article blogging though has the disadvantage of the dreaded writer's block. Micro blogging doesn't have this issue as these types of blogs are more emotion, opinion based, or reflective of a specific event at the moment. Which method or style is best? Both styles are good and there's no reason why you can't use both. I do. Quite frequently, I'll just post a quick "at the moment" thought, idea, or opinion. You'll see in my archives that I use both styles fairly equally. The combination or both styles opens the door to a broader range of exploration that can truly enrich your blogging experience and that or your visitors. Blogging platforms like WordPress or BlogSpot can be intimidating to a new blogger. Don't let them intimidate you. Use them to start out micro blogging and you'll automatically grow as your skills develop. The hardest part about being a blogger is writing. Starting with a simple format like opinion, commentary, or just thoughts about your daily life can be the easiest way to get into blogging and often the most rewarding. If you are not sure about blogging or don't have enough time to write full articles, then FaceBook or Twitter are both excellent ways to "get wet". Blogging is a fun way to share your thoughts and meeting new people. If you're not sure where to start, and haven't read my Blogging tips 101, then start there. I give a list of one hundred and thirty one different sites that range from micro blogging to article blogging and all of them will host you for free.
