A new feature: related articles

by Mar Matthias Darin

I've finally got the algorithm for calculating article relationships working properly. As most of you know, my blog software picks the tags (keywords) automatically. I've continued in a similar approach with determining the relationship between articles.

At the bottom of each of the articles on the blog is the most related list that my algorithm has chosen ranked from the highest to lowest relationship.

My biggest challenge was the speed of analysis. My first attempts in getting the algorithm right took the system a minimum of 10 minutes just to calculate the relationships between each article. The refined algorithm that I'm using now can determine the relations in a time of less then two seconds. That is quite impressive since I have 296 (including this one) articles to date.

The algorithm has made some interesting relationships that I would have never thought of or expected. After re-reading the current article and the one the algorithm says is related, I was actually surprised that it was able to make the connective relationship.

This is definitely one feature I will be keeping...
