NIMBY

by Rev. Dr. Leslie Mary Trombly

For eons there have always been people that suffer from a syndrome known as NIMBY. What is NIMBY? NIMBY is a disease known as: NOT IN MY BACKYARD! This disease runs prevalent in every city, town, state and nation in this world. The NIMBY disease affects the homeless, the poor and yes; even religion.

People do not want homeless shelters to help the homeless in their neighborhood or the poor living within a hundred miles of them. They walk around with their self-righteous and pompous noses in the air, while looking done at others who are not as blessed as they are. When it comes to the diversity of religious beliefs"they certainly do not want them in their same neighborhood or even on the same Street. The NIMBY DISEASE has struck again. Only this time the NIMBY disease is directed directly at the Christians and those who steadfastly stand firm with God and proclaim His glory. Now the shoe is on the other foot, folks, when it comes to our Christian beliefs and we are losing in all countries on this planet. The battle to maintain God, even in this country is failing miserably. The voices of the other diversified religions or beliefs or the lack thereof are louder than ours!

Why? The reason may lie in the fact that there are less people who believe in God than those who don"t. The people of this planet have been convinced that (a) there is no God; because if there were, He wouldn"t allow evil to prevail. (b) They choose to live lives their way without God and without the restrictions that God set forth in His word. (c) They would rather wallow in the filth and perverseness of this world and not be concerned about their eternal souls in the hereafter; because a majority of them believe that once you are dead" YOU ARE DEAD! BOY! Are they in for a shock and I do not mean a culture shock" either!

The bible reminds us that "all we like sheep have gone astray and everyone has turned to their own way"(Isaiah 53:6) and sadly we have; for the most part. Now, we who are true to the Lord are facing the same NIMBY disease that we have heaped on others; albeit intentional or unintentional. Only this time it is our faith and Christian values that are not wanted by those who have the "other false religions".

You know what? It hurts like the dickens, when you love the Lord, as I do and most of us do. We are a small majority as opposed to the others and one thing I know for sure is that , I for one will continue to fight the good fight of faith and remain steadfast in the Lord"no matter what. What about you who claim to be Christian? Will you do the same thing or will you run and hide or side with the "enemies of out Lord and Savior; because it is easier or you are just plain "chicken" to stand with the Lord?

Yes! You hear me right! I said CHICKEN! C-H-I-C-K-E-N! If you haven"t the guts or the faith and belief in the Lord here on earth, then heaven has no place for you there! In these end times, it is most important that we fight back at the NIMBY diseased people who are against our faith that has endured since the dawn of time, while other "faiths" continually crop up and have since the devil got a stranglehold on this planet.

Those who chose to sit on the "sidelines" with their sunglasses or "rose colored glasses" on are in for a rude awakening when it comes to facing God and where your eternal home will be. "Those who stand with God, stay with God. Those who don"t are banished by God." As the book of Joshua says: "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." (Joshua 24:15)

Comments from Carol at A Second Cup

Wow, well said! We do need to be reminded Eph 6:12 while people do oppose truth, our battle is for their souls against Satan. We are all to be engaged in loving/warning people to life.
