Search Engine Keyword Research

by Mar Matthias Darin

As I mention in this article, finding the best keywords for your web site or blog is a daunting and stressful task. I have a tool that I use that give me a safe approach to picking keywords. I say safe, because it analyses the the actual content of the web page it has been given.

I also recently updated it to provide the latest information I have learned regarding the various search engines. The tool that I have built is the Keyword Analyzer or KWAN.

As I stated above, I built KWAN to help me in getting my keywords right. My biggest headache ever was seeing the web page in question as the search engines do. Some search engines use the alt tag to collect information and some completely ignore anything that is not text. So when I built KWAN, I chose a conservative approach and decided to ignore anything was not text in the body of the page. Stating this, all images (including alt tags), java(script), and flash are completely ignored during the analysis. Only pure textual content is analyzed.

Using such a restrictive has given me an opportunity to actually see what my pages are really saying. I have designed pages that were absolutely awe striking beautiful, given them to KWAN for analysis, and had my jaw hit the ground (not in a good way) when I saw the results. The search engines really have a different view of what a web page looks like.

I know this restrictive formula works. Typing Matthias Chronicles in Google or Yahoo brings my blog up as the first entry in both search engines. Mind you, my blog is only four months old.

Here's the link to KWAN:

KWAN is free and its that way because I can not guarantee your site will make the #1 position in a search engine and anyone that does is out to rip you off. I only guarantee the keywords KWAN gives are accurate to your page. Give it a spin and let me know what you think.
