Saturday, July 19, 2008, 1:48 AM Only in America By Mar Matthias Darin I went through my usual daily reading spots, newspapers, blogs, and TV news today looking for something to catch my interest to rant or write on. I came acrossed many things today as often as I usually do. Too much to write on and so much worthless crap to complain about. Overall, today has been pretty much like every other day. The government is still whining about the energy problems we have and sitting with their heads shoved up their @$$es instead of working to solve them. The typical moral decay on the T.V. I can remember being able to find a good movie in the middle of the night. Now all I find is paid commercials, informercials (who the hell invents these stupid words anyways), and the typical go here, call this number, or watch this sleezey show to solve some worthless slimeball's dysfunctional libido issues. In all of this crap, I have come to these conclusions: Only in America do men need a drug to "get it on" or "have a good time." Only in America can a man plug themselves in a device that lets them have "sex" with GOD only knows what on the other side of the connection. Only in America are songs about Viagra top sellers on commercials. Only in America can our society have a major energy crises and the elected officials can behave like jack asses and packaderms. Only in America, it is legal to marry an 11 year old. Only in America the elected officials can decide to ignore 80% of the country's people and not pass a "National Language" law. Only in America do we have diseases like anorexia when 75% of the rest of the world is starving simple because they don't want to eat. Only in America do we have groups of people bitching and whining about slavery when it hasn't existed here in over 140 years. Only in America can we have elected officials give taxpayer's money to family members as birthday gifts and call it an "earmark." Only in America do we have people that sit on their asses in the face of a natural disaster and then sue the government when its all over for "not protecting them." Only in America is it legal to burn our own flag. Only in America do criminals have more rights and protections then good, hard working taxpayers. What has our country come to? More importantly, where is it going? Ironically, I'm only 40 years old yet the distablization of this country has spread just within my lifetime. At the rate this country is digressing, by the time I'm 50, I'll be the alien in the country I was born in... This is supposed to be progress??? I'm not so damned sure I want progress given the examples I've already seen... Only in America... Top 10 Tags: america, country, elected, good, officials, people, today, asses, call, come
Comments from sly "Only in America, it is legal to marry an 11 year old." And maybe in Germany as well. "Only in America do we have groups of people bitching and whining about slavery when it hasn't existed here in over 140 years." People talk about slavery as if America invented it, when in fact it had been around for centuries before. In fact, America a bolished slavery, but you'll never hear the blacks talk about that. "Only in America do criminals have more rights and protections then good, hard working taxpayers." Sad but true! Comments from Wind Mill Good article Matthias! Which goes to prove why Americans are being reminded, "In God we Thrust" Comments from mikey777 "Only in America" is absolutely right. Other countries despise us for the apathy and loose morals of our society. Can you blame them? It saddens me. It really seems to me that the people of this country have just plain given up on correcting our problems. We could have demonstrations, boycotts, marches on the White House, but we don't anymore. This reminds me of one of Thomas Jefferson's quotes: "When the government fears its people, there is liberty. When the people fear their government, there is tyranny." And that's what we have allowed to happen. Tyranny. The people no longer control any aspect of running this country. Comments from fwaggle this is why i've given up trying to decide who's the better candidate - both parties take turns shafting the country in their own respective ways, and unfortunately neither fixes the problems of the prior rulers. i'm pro-gun rights, pro-free speech, a believer in small businesses and taxing larger corporations harder, i think they should do away with welfare except for food stamps, i hate affirmative action, i respect soldiers but disagree with the wars they're currently in, i'm for 100% unadulterated freedom of/from/for/to religion, and i'm a firm believer that the government that governs least governs best. who's the perfect candidate for people like me? it's a good thing i'm ineligible to vote or i'd be pretty irresponsible in not voting... ever. the usa's headed down the shitter and neither party wants to fix it, they just want to push their own agendas. republicans == $$ for their big business cronies, democrats == tax the rich and donate to the poor. where's the sane candidate who wants to get the country back to what it's supposed to be? Comments from Mar Matthias Darin Thank you to everyone. Sly: Whoa, Germany is as bad as we are? Thats something you don't hear about on the news... Wind Mill: Until the looney liberals make it illegal to say... mikey777: There is definately truth there. fwaggle: The canidate in the middle doesn't exist. Politicians are a reflection of our society. We have messed up elected officials because our society is messed up. Unadulterated freedom requires unadulterated responsibility, something most in this country can't handle. They'd rather have excuses instead of facing the consequences of their actions.
