The social bookmarking farce

by Mar Matthias Darin

Looking for the fancy social bookmarking thingy at the bottom of the articles? I'll save you some time... I deleted it.

I know some of my readers are saying, "That was the stupidest thing you could have done ever..." Rest assured, it wasn't. I have done dumber things in my life. I have been a member of several social bookmarking site for years and just when I actually learn how to use the thing, some new "super great, fancy, you gotta try this.." site shows up.

Enough already. There is no way I can keep up with all these wacky sites. I have a notebook filled with usernames and passwords from here to nowhere land and back. Plus, after years of participation in some of them, I have NOTHING constructive to show for it. My reader base hasn't grown, my commenter base hasn't grown, my software hasn't "gone viral" or boomed over night and I've spent way too much time and money everywhere else but on my own pages.

So, my bottom line of the "Social Bookmarking Frenzy" is this: It has proven to be a major waste of time and money. Also, I have had my fill of trash and scum users, trolls, and the like that have gone out of their way to ruin some, at one time, very good sites.

If you, as my dedicated reader, wish to bookmark and share pages on my blog or other pages I work on, I am appreciative for the support and maybe I will see one of these over-bloated, bookmarking sites actually work and consider adding to this blog but I can not keep up with, and am tired of trying to, the sixty plus social sites out there.

I need to focus my time and energy here, not everywhere else.

If someone can prove me wrong, I'm all ears and would be interested in how they did it and I ain't interested in the "buy my ebook and learn my secrets" junk... been there, done that, and wasted more everything on it.

I understand what you're saying. Too much already!!!! I just use a few and spend very little time on the bookmarking sites. Mostly, I just use them to bookmark sites I really enjoy and posts I find very interesting to me that I may want to refer to later. I'd much rather spend my time posting on my site too.

(First time a saw a security code like this!)

Thank you for commenting.

My dreaded security code, captcha thingy.... Saddly needed to keep the unwanted robo-trash out. I lot of people (including me) have expressed some very colorful words to describe my home brewed nightmare security system...
