Generating electricity from the road ways

by Mar Matthias Darin

I've covered green products before, and will continue to look for new and innovative ways to break the oil strangle hold on our society. In as such, I have acrossed some new technology that is absolutely brilliant. Imagine the possibilities of being able to generate electricity from cars driving on the roads without any negative effect to the vehicle...

The possible uses of the electricity are endless. Street lights, road signs and even putting energy back into the main electric grid are just the tip of the iceberg.

One company has done just that --- thought about the possibilities and come up with an innovative way to exploit them. Highway Energy Systems, LTD. has developed a "Road Ramp" that generates electricity from vehicles moving over it.

Below is a video from the web site that demonstrates the innovation behind the concept.

I am definitely looking forward to seeing where this technology will be applied. Kudos to Highway Energy Systems, LTD. for thinking out of the box.
